Kayla has been working at Bannermans since July 2017. Kayla commenced at Bannermans initially in a legal administrative role while completing her university degree, and now recently admitted as a lawyer in the Supreme Court of NSW.
Kayla works in both the Building and Construction and Strata teams undertaking the following work:
Building and Construction
- Advising owners corporations on building defects, insurance claims, legal remedies, relevant limitations periods and current issues such as combustible cladding;
- Assisting with acting for owners corporations in building defect claims in the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal;
- Drafting applications for building defect claims in the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal;
- Briefing and engaging with technical building experts such as consultant specialists, surveyors and engineers;
- Assisting owners corporations in relation to the enforcement and supervision of work orders and settlement agreements for rectification works;
- Reviewing building contracts and advising builders and owners corporations;
- Participating in alternative dispute resolution including mediation; and
- Drafting settlement deeds and agreements.
Strata
- By-law drafting, consolidation and registration;
- Reviewing and advising on by-laws;
- Drafting applications for strata disputes in the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal;
- Assisting with advising owners corporation in relation to unauthorised works and repair and maintenance responsibilities under the Strata Schemes Management Act 2015; and
- Assisting with advising owners corporations in relation to Fire Orders, particularly in respect to combustible cladding.
